Microsoft Ups the Ante with Purchase of Activision

Microsoft Corporation, one of the original pioneers of the computer era made a bold move recently that shook things up in the world of high definition gaming. The bold move comes as they made a purchase of $68 billion for Activision Blizzard, an industry leader in all things related to video game platforms. The acquisition now puts Microsoft at the forefront of the metaverse, joined by rivals Meta, Google, and GoMeta.

The company, which was headed by Bobby Kotick(CEO), Daniel Alegre(President), and Dennis Durkin(CFO), is the maker of popular games in the E-sports arena as well as others, which garnered upwards of $23 billion in sales over the past two years. Among some of their investors are The Vanguard Group, BlackRock Fund Advisors, and SSgA Funds Management Inc, with a collective 136 million shares owned. Recently, the company’s stock experienced a dramatic drop of more than 27%, all of which has been regained since the Microsoft deal. Among those still in an operational capacity will be the original CEO, Kotick, as they prepare to ramp up mobile gaming subscriptions and an impressive E-sports line-up. Currently, Microsoft stands at a market capitalization of $2 trillion dollars, however, the latest move is bound to bring billions more in revenue over the next few years.
