AMC Theatres, the largest national movie chain in the country, has recently gotten into the cryptocurrency space as a move to secure additional revenues. The company’s payment system, which can be downloaded via smartphone users as a mobile application has begun allowing its users to purchase an assortment of tickets via the blockchain. Following the place of many other establishments, AMC has now confirmed that they are accepting Dogecoin and Shiba Inu tokens from crypto enthusiasts.
The company’s CEO, Adam Aron tweeted the news a few weeks ago, in response to fulfilling a promise to its customers to expand upon their ability to pay. Originally, Dogecoin was accepted by the theatres as of the Fall of 2021, however it had limited capacity, only being accessible via gift cards up to a certain dollar amount. The addition of Shiba Inu, in conjunction with the BitPay wallet platform, is part of a long term plan to align the company with the currency of the future. The move has also shown a marked improvement in earnings potential as the company showed a total of 14% of online revenues coming from users who used the cryptocurrency method as their source of payment for services.
